Library to host women's suffrage program

Crook County Library will host the program "Fifty-One Years of Freedom: Wyoming's Suffrage Story, 1869-1920" by Kylie McCormick on Fri., Mar. 11 at 7 p.m. in the library meeting room in Sundance. The program is free and open to the public.

In 1869 Wyoming made history as the first U.S. territory to give women the right to vote. Fifty-one years later, the nation followed Wyoming's lead.

A fresh take on a longstanding controversy, this presentation offers critical new evidence to Wyoming's suffrage story and restores the contributions to the movement made by both Dr. Grace Raymond Hebard and Esther Hobart Morris.

Kylie Louise McCormick is a historian based out of Casper, Wyoming. Born and raised in Casper, Kylie returned home after studying in Roanoke, Virginia; Berlin; London; and Lincoln, Nebraska. She holds two Bachelor of Arts degrees, Summa Cum Laude from Hollins University and a Master of Arts degree in history from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

Upon returning home to Wyoming, Kylie has since dedicated herself to education and Wyoming history. She is a recipient of the 2021 Homsher Research Grant from the Wyoming State Historical Society for her work on Wyoming women's suffrage.

Kylie uses her research to teach classes with the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at Casper College, as well as give public presentations on Wyoming history.
