Super Sunday run day

As a relatively mild morning broke, runners gathered at the courthouse on Sunday to take part in the annual fun run appropriately named "Freeze Your Fanny".

Of the brave souls who ran the four-mile course, the first across the finish line this year was Casey Nauta of Spearfish, SD, with a time of 25:57, followed by Harley Riveria in 26:01 and Justus Funk in 26:02.

Nauta was the first place finisher in the male division, while Mandi Meredith-Dunlop of Salt Lake City, UT, age 41, was the first female to finish in 29:28.

Best costume went to a local flock of penguins including Joyah Tilberg, Melissa McCarty, Amanda Garoutte, Kinley Garoutte, Sherry Haiar, Tina Inghram and Travis Inghram.

Freeze Your Fanny has been a local tradition for more than three decades of Superbowl Sundays, celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2020.

It was started when a group of friends drove to Rupe Hill and ran back, gathering around a wood stove in Hugh Palmer's garage when they finished and eating pancakes in his kitchen.
