Continuing the Crook County News Since 1884

Crook among top five counties for employment rates

Unemployment rates are continuing to drop across Wyoming, including in this area. Crook remains within the top five counties in terms of the number of people who currently have jobs.

Wyoming’s unemployment rate as a whole fell from 4.5% in September to 3.7% by the end of November, marking a period of five months in which that percentage has fallen. This state now sits well below the national average of 4.2%.

Crook County shares fourth place on the list with Niobrara at 1.9% unemployment, a modest decrease from September’s 2%. The counties with lower figures include Albany and Weston counties at 1.7% and Goshen County at 1.8%.

Unsurprisingly, unemployment rates in November were lower in every Wyoming county than at the same time in 2020, due to the impacts of the pandemic. The November, 2020 percentage of unemployed people in Wyoming was 5.3%.

The 2021 figures, according to the Wyoming Department of Workforce Services, is closer to normality. The largest decreases were 6.7% to 3.1% in Natrona and 6.2% to 2.9% in Teton counties.

The percentage changes represent an increase of 2700 jobs in this state over the course of the year.
