Holidays are here again

Parades, tree lighting, contests and more to kick off Christmas season

The official kick-off to holidays will be making its way down Main Street this Friday to the "Sweet Refrain of Christmas." The lighted parade will be complemented by local events both before and after the decorated vehicles wend their merry way through town.

This year's entries will be judged in three categories, including business and organization, most unique and best use of theme. Line-up will begin at 4:30 p.m. near the hospital and the parade itself will set off at 5:30 p.m.

The winners of the Shop Small Punch Card raffle, which saw shoppers spend their holiday cash in local businesses last weekend during Small Business Saturday and the Ladies' Night Block Party, will be announced at the parade.

As the parade comes to an end, head to Sundance Square for a community tree lighting and to the community room in the courthouse basement for the annual chili feed to benefit Crook County's EMTs.

Over at Old Stoney, the winners of the raffle to win a commemorative Henry .30-.30 Golden Boy will be announced. The Crook County Museum District will also be hosting a candy contest, with a basket of baking goodies for the winner.

If you would like to enter the contest, deliver your candy by 3 p.m. on December 3, making sure it's served in around 40 bite-sized morsels.

TCB Enterprises will meanwhile be offering hot chocolate and homemade cookies, with a fire if the wind permits.

Indulge in a little Christmas shopping before or after the parade at Crook County Senior Services' sixth annual Christmas Craft Bazaar. To be held at the admin office on Main Street, the bazaar will take place between 4 and 7:30 p.m.

Wrap up warm, grab your wallets and let the Christmas fun begin!
