100 Years Ago

Nov. 10, 1921

Frank Haselton is reported to be recovering slowly from the effects of a fall from his horse last week. The accident occurred at his ranch when he was pulling a car to start it. The cinch broke, throwing Mr. Haselton with much force.

One of the most distressing tragedies in the history of Campbell County occurred last week when Mr. and Mrs. L.D. Neal, homesteaders living 65 miles south of Gillette died from the effects of eating canned duck which had generated some kind of poison.

Articles of association were filed with the register of deeds for Crook county Monday by Edwin Rounds for the American State Bank with a capital of $10,000. The new bank will operate at Moorcroft, and the directors given are H.G. Weare, L.A. Brown, C. W. Ott, Edwin Rounds and Imogene Crewdson. The American State will open for business in about ten days.

Nov. 14, 1946

Ray Bryan, owner of the new Bryan building in Sundance, has purchased the business of the Model Grocery in Sundance from Ralph Partlow and Deane Bryan and took possession of the business Wednesday morning of this week. The new grocery store owner came to Sundance in February of this year from Casper and started the building of the two-story brick building which now houses Ray's café and Marna's Beauty Shop on the main floor and has apartments and office quarters overhead. Ralph Partlow one of the retiring partners of the Model Grocery has operated the store for 20 years, while his partner Deane Bryan has been associated with him for the past nine and one half years in this business.

Wednesday, November 20 parties interested in forming a recreation center for the youth of Sundance are invited to attend a meeting at the home of Mrs. James Kokesh in Sundance. The meeting is being called by women interested in forming recreation center for the youth so that they will have a place for entertainment after school hours and will be better able to keep themselves out of mischief.

Nov. 7, 1996

A total of 2846 voters in Crook County, or 89% cast their votes in the general election on Tuesday. On the county level, Donald H. Roberts won over Daniel M. Boone for a seat on the County Commissioners with 1902 votes to 846. Mark A. Semlek received 2381 votes for the two-year unexpired term as commissioner. Fred Welch easily won the seat of mayor of Moorcroft with 201 votes to 143 for Jean Worden. In the Pine Haven election, Velma Brandenburg won the seat of mayor with 70 votes to 45 for Bruce Brandt. Sundance retained Mayor James Miller for another term with 479 votes to 107 for John Modica.
