The Sundance Bulldogs outran the rainstorms, competing in the Northern Hills Invitational in Spearfish Fri., Sept. 3.
Senior Andrew Davis ran his 5000-meter race in a time of 20:35, while junior Kort McLaughlin finished 21st in a time of 21:30. Davis’ finish pre-qualified him for the 2A State Cross Country Meet in October.
The freshmen competed in a 4000-meter freshmen division. Angel Villegas finished 7th in a time of 16:08. Kyten Johnson finished in 17:21, while Wyatt Flahaven and Holden Ayer finished in 17:39 and 18:33, respectively.
Sixth-grader Carter Croell finished his 3000-meter middle school race in a time of 15:39.
Co-coaches Ann Marie Mickle and Jen Jungwirth were pleased with the improvement in times for both Davis and McLaughlin. Davis shaved off 1:21.55 from the previous meet in Newcastle, while McLaughin ran his race 1:16.70 minutes faster than the previous
“These boys truly strive to become stronger and faster,” Mickle said. “The improvement Coach Jungwirth and I have seen just in a week, both on the courses and in practice, shows us we have a strong and growing program.”
The Bulldogs’ next competition will be the Big Horn Invitational on Fri., Sept. 10.
