Cross Country team takes on Northern Hills Invitational

The Sundance Bulldogs outran the rainstorms, competing in the Northern Hills Invitational in Spearfish Fri., Sept. 3.

Senior Andrew Davis ran his 5000-meter race in a time of 20:35, while junior Kort McLaughlin finished 21st in a time of 21:30. Davis’ finish pre-qualified him for the 2A State Cross Country Meet in October.

The freshmen competed in a 4000-meter freshmen division. Angel Villegas finished 7th in a time of 16:08. Kyten Johnson finished in 17:21, while Wyatt Flahaven and Holden Ayer finished in 17:39 and 18:33, respectively.

Sixth-grader Carter Croell finished his 3000-meter middle school race in a time of 15:39.

Co-coaches Ann Marie Mickle and Jen Jungwirth were pleased with the improvement in times for both Davis and McLaughlin. Davis shaved off 1:21.55 from the previous meet in Newcastle, while McLaughin ran his race 1:16.70 minutes faster than the previous

“These boys truly strive to become stronger and faster,” Mickle said. “The improvement Coach Jungwirth and I have seen just in a week, both on the courses and in practice, shows us we have a strong and growing program.”

The Bulldogs’ next competition will be the Big Horn Invitational on Fri., Sept. 10.
