School district higher than state average on graduation rates

Crook County is among 18 school districts across the state that posted graduation rates above 90% this year. The district falls at number 14 on the statewide list with a rate of 91.6%.

Overall across the state, the Wyoming Department of Education announced last week that high school graduation rates have been improving for the last seven years. In 2013, 77.6% of Wyoming seniors graduated; in 2020, this had increased to 82.3%.

“Wyoming continues to set high standards for our graduates, which is reflected in our plan for the Every Student Succeeds Act, and evidenced in the graduation rate increase. That it’s our seventh-consecutive year for an increase demonstrates that our plans, our partnerships, are working,” said State Superintendent of Public Instruction Jillian Balow in the announcement.

Within Crook County School District, the highest graduation rate was in Moorcroft, where 97% of students earned their diploma. Sundance followed with an 87.1% rate, while Hulett had an 86.2% graduation for 2020.

Overall, 76 students received their diplomas in Crook County at the end of the 2019-20 school year. This year’s graduation rate remains steady from last year, when 92.1% of Crook County students graduated, and is a modest improvement from the 2017-18 school year, when 86.7% graduated.
