'Tis the season

Holidays are coming and Sundance is all set up to enjoy the season while we wait for the big man to harness his reindeer. Avoid those last minute shopping panics and support your local businesses with several opportunities to shop local provided by the Sundance Chamber of Commerce over the next few weeks.

Your first opportunity to tick some gifts off your list – or treat yourself! – is the now-annual tradition of Small Business Saturday, scheduled for November 28. Sundance will celebrate small businesses through the Shop Small® event, which includes the $250 Punch Card Raffle.

“This year’s Shop Small event is more important than ever to help spread the word about the impacts and benefits of shopping at your local businesses. COVID-19 has made it more accepted and comfortable than ever to shop online, however, there are still safe ways to Shop Locally,” says Andy Miller of the Chamber of Commerce.

“These local small business are the heart and soul of our community, they support our schools, community events, and employ our friends, family, and neighbors. Please make an effort to do some of your holiday shopping locally this year!”

To join in, simply visit stores around Sundance and grab a punch card. For each qualifying purchase of $5, you will receive one punch on your card; to complete a card will require a total of $50 in purchases.

Your punch cards can then be turned in at Sundance State Bank or any participating retailer before December 4. On that day, a drawing will be held during the Lighted Parade and the winning ticket will receive $250 in Sundance Bucks.

The fun doesn’t stop as the sun goes down, though. The evening of November 28 will be the Ladies Night Block Party, an opportunity to grab your girlfriends and browse the best of local with a glass of wine in hand.

The event begins at the Sundance State Bank meeting room, where you can redeem your ticket for a wine glass, gift bag, wine and hors d’oeuvres. You can purchase tickets ahead of time at a discount from November 2 onwards from Wild West Espresso or Serendipity Floral.

You’ll have plenty of locations to visit throughout the evening, including Longhorn Saloon & Grill, Wild West Espresso, Serendipity Floral & Gifts, Tracy Motor Company, Anomaly Sales & Boutique, First American Title and BH Title. At least 20 additional vendors will be set up within these locations.

Your purchases will still qualify for the Punch Card Raffle, so make sure to get your punch card filled along the way. The event runs from 5 to 8 p.m.

With your gift shopping sorted, enjoy a well-earned evening of Christmas entertainment on December 4 when the lighted parade arrives on Main Street to the theme of “Yesterday and Today”. Line-up begins at 4:30 p.m. with the parade itself starting at 5:30 p.m.

Entries this year will be judged in three categories: business and organization, most unique and best use of theme. If you’d like to be included in the parade, submit your entry form by November 30 at city hall or Sundance State Bank, or email them to [email protected].
