From walking to cycling

Two years ago, volunteers from Powder River Energy were able to raise enough money through their annual walking taco stand to enable the Crook County Library Foundation to purchase a “book bike”. It’s taken a while to arrive, but Librarian Kim Heaster was able to show off the new purchase to representatives from PRECorp on Tuesday morning.

The $5800 donation was achieved through the money raised during the event and a matching donation from the Powder River Energy Foundation. Initially suggested by Heaster, the bike is intended to be an attention-grabbing and fun way to reach out to readers in the community.

The bike has large containers attached to its sides that can be filled with books to carry them around town more easily and opened up for display and browsing. The book bike will allow library staff to appear at festivals, parades and other events in the county throughout the year.

The new book bike needs a name, so a contest has been launched to find the best ideas – submit your entries at the library!
