Sundance runners have strong showing in Hulett

Two Sundance Bulldog Cross Country runners ran state-qualifying times at the Hulett Invitational Sept. 3, the second competition of the fall 2020 season. 

Senior Hunter Skeens claimed first place in the boys’ varsity race, finishing in a smoking time of 16:15, shaving off more than two minutes of his previous week’s race time, while freshman Rylie Marchant placed third for high school girls’ in a time of 21:29. Marchant ran the race more than five minutes faster than the Newcastle Invite. 

Rounding out the Bulldog boys’ competition was sophomore Kort McLaughlin placing sixth in 22:12 and senior Josh Pridgeon ending ninth in 23:28.

Freshman Riley Banker finished 13th in a time of 28:14 in for the Bulldog girls. 

The SHS junior high cross country runners also saw success at the Hulett Invite. Eighth-grader Angel Villegas placed third in the competition. 

“Our athletes ran well despite the heat and Coach Jungwirth and I are proud of the teamwork,” said coach Ann Marie Mickle. 

The Bulldog runners encouraged each other on and off the course. The team encouragement is key in building successful runners and a successful team, Mickle added.

The Bulldog Cross Country team will compete at the Big Horn Invitational Friday, Sept. 11.
