Hunter Education begins soon

A Wyoming Game and Fish Department authorized and approved Hunter Education Class is scheduled in Sundance just in time for prospective new hunters to get certified before fall wild turkey and deer season in the Black Hills. Even if you never hunt, the class provides students of all ages valuable information about firearm and archery safety, wildlife management, habitat conservation, outdoor survival, law and regulations, respect and responsibility to wildlife, property owners and hunting companions and much more.

Wyoming law requires virtually all hunters born on or after January 1, 1966 to pass a certified Hunter Education Class and possess a Hunter Education / Safety Card from Wyoming or another state.

All sessions of the class will be held at the Crook County Fairground Exhibit Hall / Shooting Sports Building on Sept. 21-24, 28-30. The class will begin at 6:30 p.m. and be dismissed by 9 p.m. all evenings for a total of approximately 17 hours of instruction. A final test will be given the evening of Sept. 30.

The course is made possible in Sundance by certified volunteer instructors and guest speakers. The Sundance Rod & Gun Club makes the class available at no cost to enrollees and all materials are provided by the Wyoming Game and Fish Department. Certification and Hunter Safety Card issuing is administered by the Wyoming Game & Fish Department Hunter Education section.

Each student should have a face mask that may be worn at certain times during the class. Wyoming COVID-19 recommendations for indoor classes and meetings will be followed.
