Man dies while camping at Warren Peak

An older man who had spent a week camping out near Warren Peak was found dead at the location of his vehicle on Wednesday morning.

According to Undersheriff Todd Leimser, deputies with the Crook County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a report of a deceased body on August 12 at around 10:10 a.m.

The location of the body was believed to be an area north of Warren Peak, off Forest Service Road 838 (otherwise known as Taylor Divide) to respond to a report of a deceased body.

The deputies were able to locate the male subject and identify him as Felix T. Taliaferro Jr., age 71 of Box Elder, SD. “Mr. Taliaferro had been camping out of his vehicle in the area for approximately a week,” says Leimser.

“The investigation into the death and autopsy performed indicates Mr. Taliaferro died from natural causes.”

The incident was investigated by the sheriff’s office and Crook County Coroner’s Office.
