Bid approved for Sundance West water tank

The Sundance City Council convened on Thursday evening to approve a bid for the project to replace the water storage tank in Sundance West. The bid was awarded to low bidders Timberline Services.

The low bid was $593,000, which undercut the engineer’s estimate of $822,947 by quite a margin.

“He is below significantly,” commented Mayor Paul Brooks.

Michelle Sell on behalf of city engineers Triydro explained there are a couple of reasons for the difference. The first, she said, is that most contractors factored in mobilization at between $75,000 and $112,000.

The engineer’s estimate was $74,000, said Sell, but Timberline Services bid at $20,000 because the project is right in his back yard.

The second factor involved work needed on the project at the canyon pump lift station and the Sundance West pump station. According to Sell, Timberline bid these portions of the project at $39,000 and $31,000, which was in line with the engineer’s estimate, but the next low bidder placed both pump stations at $58,809.

Content with the bid, the council passed a motion to approve the bid. This was done in special meeting, instead of waiting for the next regular session of the council, to allow the project to move ahead more quickly.
