Mignerys honored with American Forest Foundation Leadership Award

Local landowners Ed and Barb Mignery have been recognized with the American Forest Foundation Leadership Award for the leadership efforts they have provided to the Wyoming Tree Farm group. Ed was presented with the award at the National Leadership Conference.

As the vice chairman of Wyoming Tree Farm, Ed was recognized in the nomination for his work to promote the program.

“Ed jumped right in as soon as he became the vice chairman by contacting several of the Tree Farmers to get to know them and, since he was in contact, he made sure they had Tree Farm signs,” says the nomination.

“If not, he offered to deliver them and even mount them for landowners if they were unable to mount them themselves. It was a good way for Ed to get to know some of his fellow Tree Farmers.”

From there, Ed coordinated the first Wyoming Tree Farm “Walk in the Woods” and included other organizations on the walk. He worked with the Project Learning Tree Coordinator to promote the activity. Ed was also recognized for joining the Wood Promoters project group to help stimulate forest management through wood promotions.

An opportunity to see the fruits of the Mignerys’ efforts will be available through Eastern Wyoming College Outreach on June 8 (or 11 in case of rain) at 6:30 p.m. at 181 Miller Creek Road. A two-hour walk in the company of state foresters will offer the opportunity to see the beautiful forest with its diverse plants and animals and also the results of the management practices that have been implemented on the property.
