Senator Roger D. Thomas of Sundance was made vice-president of the State Senate by the Republican majority when the Legislature convened at Cheyenne last Tuesday. Besides being Senate vice-president, Senator Thomas is chairman of the powerful Judiciary committee, to which most of the important bills are referred and also a member of the important Revenue committee, which passes on all measures carrying appropriations originating in the House.

S-Sgt. Edgar Partlow has been wounded. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Partlow of Sundance, were notified Tuesday afternoon by his wife who received the official word from the war department. No other details are known. Edgar has been serving on the western front having been overseas since October of 1944.

Louis Leitner, who registered for service in November, left Sunday for Fort Logan, Colorado, where he will be inducted into the armed services. He is from the Aladdin country. Another group is to leave next week for pre-induction examinations.

Land transfers as recorded in the office of the county clerk this past week are as follows: John P. Stubbart to Harlan Williams; Golden Gate Mine and Timber Co. to J.H. Ranch Co.; Robert J. Steen to Calvin L. Buckmiller.

A throat culture service was started Monday in the Sundance school, elementary principal Gerald Wolfe said. He said Mrs. Patsy McLaughlin, school nurse, will be providing the throat culture service in cooperation with Dr. Edward Kunckel and Chuck Wilson, Crook County Memorial Hospital lab technician.

Bill Sell, Sundance, was installed Monday night as Noble Grand of the Sundance Odd Fellows lodge. Other officers installed were Charles Donaldson, secretary; and Jess Kanode, treasurer. Installing officer was District Deputy Grandmaster Arthur Hauber assisted by Hulett IOOF members Wayne Shaw, Harley Rathbun and Bill Spangler and members of the Sundance lodge.

The winners of the Sundance Rod and Gun Club hunting contest recently displayed their trophy belt buckles and horns. This year’s winners were Dennis Vail, turkey; Doug Ramsey, mule deer, 145 3/8; Terry Speidel, elk, 279 6/8; Todd Seeley, whitetail deer, 131 7/8; and Dick Wilson, antelope, 73 6/8.
