Bulldogs sweep Stateline Shootout

The Sundance boys’ basketball team made history this past weekend as they swept all the teams competing in the Stateline Shootout. The boys opened up play in Sundance on Thursday night, facing off against the Newcastle Dogies.

The Dogies came out strong in the first quarter, behind their full court pressure and hot hand, Dylon Tidyman, who scored the first six unanswered points of the game. While the Bulldogs struggled to get the ball moving on offense, their full court pressure started to disrupt the Dogies flow into the second quarter and Sundance was able to take a two-point lead going into the break.

The second half of play was all Sundance. Stepping up their defensive game, the Bulldogs were able to hold the Dogies to a measly six points. On the offensive side, Sundance game out with a 12-0 run before Newcastle could even get on the board.

“It was a great team effort,” head coach Nic Olson commented. “We had several different players step up when we needed a bucket and I loved how we celebrated our teammates’ successes.”

In the end, the Bulldogs outscored the Dogies by 28 points in their 62-34 victory.

On Friday, the Bulldogs played against Lead-Deadwood in much the same fashion as they did against Newcastle. Kye Taylor scored a team-high 21 points on their way to the 62-38 victory.

Saturday brought the Bulldogs up against an ever-tough team in the Belle Fourche Broncs. Scoring only six points in the first quarter, Sundance found themselves down at the half 19-23. The second half saw the Bulldogs turn up their defensive pressure and find their offensive swing as they were able to take a narrow 52-47 victory.

The Bulldogs will start off the new year playing in Newell on January on January 9th and in the Powder River Conference Tournament on the 10-11th.
