MINUTES of MEETING

BOARD of TRUSTEES

CROOK COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT #1

Preparing Today for Success Tomorrow

CCSD#1 will prepare & empower all students for successful, lifelong learning through effective teaching.

CALL TO

ORDER The regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of Crook County School District #1 was held in Moorcroft, WY, Monday, November 18, 2019, at the hour of 6:00 PM at the Moorcroft K8 School.

ROLL CALL The meeting opened with the following present: Vice-Chairman Rick Gill; Trustees Marlene Edwards, Thayne Gray, Keith Haiar, Dena Mills, Ken Rathbun, Heith Waddell, and Chase Williams. Trustee absent – Brian Marchant. Administrators present – Mark Broderson, Superintendent; Teresa Brown, Moorcroft K8 Principal; Becky Waters, Moorcroft High School Principal; and Brian Hartwig, Sundance Elementary Principal.

APPROVAL of

MINUTES Motion was made by Trustee Gray and seconded by Trustee Edwards to approve the minutes of the last regular meeting. Motion carried.

ADOPTION of

AGENDA Motion was made by Trustee Rathbun and seconded by Trustee Williams to adopt the agenda. Motion carried.

VISITORS Middle school students Joslyn Van Olnhausen and Wyatt Cook demonstrated their potential and kinetic energy STEM project.

FINANCIAL Motion was made by Trustee Mills and seconded by Trustee Gray to approve the October financial reports. Motion carried.

Pamela Garman, Business Manager, introduced Paul Stille, Leo Riley & Co. auditor, who went over the school district’s 2018-2019 audit results.

ARRIVAL Chairman Marchant arrived at 6:15 PM. Vice-Chairman Gill turned the meeting over to Chairman Marchant.

FINANCIAL

(con’t) Motion was made by Trustee Gray and seconded by Trustee Gill to accept the 2018-2019 audit report as presented by Leo Riley & Co. Motion carried.

BOCES Trustee Edwards offered to share all BOCES minutes, financial reports, and other information with CCSD#1 board members. She said she always has the information available and will email any requested information. Trustee Edwards also informed board members she attends the next BOCES meeting at the WSBA 2019 Annual Conference in Casper this week.

SPECIAL

PROGRAMS No report.

PRINCIPALS Information from the principals is included with the superintendent’s report.

SUPERINTENDENT Mark Broderson, Superintendent, informed board members that:

o The manila envelope contains three survey results about school climate; employees, parents, and students in grades 7-12 took the survey. Also included is the WEA magazine and the Sundance Times picture and article showing lunchroom staff serving the beef donated from Muleshoe Ranch for the school lunch program.

o The fall athletics programs ended their seasons on very high notes!

o The Stop The Bleed in-service received many positive reviews from staff.

o Junior high athletics programs are ongoing; basketball and wrestling practices will start November 25.

o The special education staff are working on state audits.

o Music programs for Veteran’s Day were well received at all the schools.

o Students are busy with drama, FFA, and music extra-curricular events.

o Enrichment Fridays are having a good turnout in the buildings.

o Counselors continue to work on the district’s suicide policy and will give input to the leadership team on December 6.

o Officer Robinson, Crook County School Resource Officer, will start to spend time in the schools after Christmas; before this occurs, there will be an article about the program in the local newspapers

o The Hulett ag building project is moving forward; an electrical bid was recently received from Powder River Energy

o The Moorcroft high school parking lot will finish up next spring

o The central office HVAC project is nearly complete.

o The Hulett dust collection project is finished.

EXECUTIVE

SESSION Motion was made by Trustee Gill and seconded by Trustee Mills to go into executive session at 6:42 PM to discuss personnel issues. Motion carried.

REGULAR

SESSION Chairman Marchant called the meeting back into regular session at 7:30 PM.

CONSENT

AGENDA Chairman Marchant asked if any board member would like any item removed from the Consent Agenda.

Motion was made by Trustee Rathbun and seconded by Trustee Gray to approve the Consent Agenda.

To approve the bill listing and to issue warrants in payment thereof.

To approve the resignation of James Clark, Sundance Bus Route Driver.

To approve hiring:

1. Sherri Moeller – Payroll & Human Resources

2. Danyell Costello – Sundance Elementary Part-time Kindergarten Para

3. Courtney Dixon – Sundance Special Education Part-time Transportation Aide

To approve 2019-2020 extra-duty contracts:

1. Randi Faeth – Sundance JH Girls’ Basketball Coach

2. Ben Stoddard – Sundance HS Girls’ Assistant Basketball Coach

3. J.B. King – Moorcroft K8 Literacy Night Presenter

4. Kasey Stroud – Moorcroft K8 Literacy Night Presenter

To approve a 2019-2020 request to home school:

1. Jess & Susie Jimison

To approve a 2019-2020 isolation request:

1. Lee & Heidi Jensen

Motion carried.

REVISION As recommended by the superintendent, motion was made by Trustee Edwards and seconded by Trustee Mills to approve the revision to Policy JFCB – Harassment, Intimidation and Bullying as presented at tonight’s meeting. The revision was made to update the safety tip line phone number and website from an old phone number to the current Safe2Tell info. Motion carried. A copy of the policy is attached and becomes a part of these minutes.

RECOGNITION Crook County School Board members want to recognize the following for their performance or accomplishments.

o All custodial staff for doing excellent work keeping the schools clean and fresh!

o The Crook County Cattlewomen for their efforts in getting local beef donated to the lunch programs!

o Katie Williams, Northeast Powder River Volleyball Coach of the Year!

o All Conference MHS volleyball players: Char Cranston, Kailee Gill and Elizabeth Peterson

o All State MHS volleyball player: Char Cranston

o MHS cross country runner, Hailey Jones, who finished second in state!

o The SHS girls’ golf team who had a first place finish and Sheridan Shubarth, who won state!

o The SHS volleyball team who won state!

o The Hulett and Sundance football teams who advanced to semi-final play-off games!

o The Hulett volleyball team who advanced to state competition!

DISCUSSION Chairman Marchant asked board members for their input on the request to serve alcohol at the Greater Hulett Community Center. Discussion was held.

Trustee Edwards asked board members to look over WSBA draft resolutions and give her their input. She is the Crook #1 voting delegate and will attend the annual conference

MENT Motion was made by Trustee Gill and seconded by Trustee Mills to adjourn the meeting at 7:52 PM. Motion carried.
