Senior center hosts tech event

The Sundance Senior Center was the site of a Senior High Tech event, held on October 30. Faith Anderson coordinated the event, which was an opportunity for seniors to get assistance with technology questions.

Sundance High School students Mazelynn Sharp, McKaya Gillespie,  Cana McInerney and Isabel Gustafson volunteered to assist at the event, which was a huge success.

Anderson said, “It is a really great way for students to connect with Seniors. Technology is just the means of starting the conversations. The main goal is forming relationships.”

Trudy Materi, site manager for the Senior Center was influential in getting the event set up and said, “We would like to thank these young ladies and AARP for sponsoring them to come to the center to assist our seniors with their phones, iPads and laptops. There was a great response and the seniors really enjoyed the students’ presence and being able to visit. The sharing of knowledge and experiences between generations is very special!”

Fred Shone spent time visiting and eating with the students after getting his tech questions answered. What he enjoyed most was the socialization: “Sometimes seniors are more shy than young people.”

All of the students said they would like to see events similar to this happen again and would definitely like to be a part of it. They collaborated and came up with some great ideas for future interactions.

Mazelynn offered, “It was nice giving back to the community, since they’ve done a lot for us.”
