Community invited to SHS Veteran's Day concert

The Sundance High School band and choir will be hosting a program of music and poetry on Veteran’s Day and the community is invited to attend in honor of our local veterans.

“We would love to see the community, and especially the veterans, in attendance,” says Teresa Preisner, music teacher.

“I look at this as not so much a concert for the kids as a program for the community.”

In recent years, Preisner says, the Veteran’s Day concert has not been themed towards veterans.

“This year will be very traditional and will be in recognition of and honoring our veterans. I hope it will end up being a very beautiful concert,” she says.

The songs planned for the concert include God Bless the U.S.A., Here’s to the Ones Who Didn’t Make it Home, Unity and Liberty and variations on America the Beautiful.

“And of course, all of the service branches will be recognized at the end of the concert,” she says. Veterans will be asked to stand when their branch’s music is played.

“I am hoping to get in touch with the area’s Color Guard and ask them to present colors at the beginning of the concert,” she says.

“I’ve incorporated the drama class. They are going to emcee for me and I’ve asked them to provide some poetry.”

The concert begins at 7 p.m. on November 11 and is expected to run for around one hour. A table will also be set up outside the auditorium for the Crook County Library food drive to restock the Crook County Food Pantry before the holidays.

Preisner would also like to let the community know that she now posts monthly newsletters in the Extra-Curriculur section of the SHS website, under “Band/Choir”. Look for her class notes on the right hand side for information about upcoming programs, concerts and opportunities for Sundance’s musical kids and the community that enjoys to listen to them.

“We’ve had so many changes of directors, I’m trying to reach out to parents and get more inclusion in the program and get to the point where the community is very happy and satisfied with what the music department is producing,” she says.
