November 5, 1919

R.O. Partlow, local weather man, reports the total snowfall for the month of October as 18-1/2 inches. The lowest temperature was zero, recorded on the 26th, and the month as a whole was unusually rough but not severe.

S. Cobham of the state highway department and two assistants came in from the west, viewing proposed state highway work between Moorcroft and Sundance via Carlile and on Monday left here for Beulah to inspect right-of-way and lay out work for the beginning of construction on the Beulah-Rocky Ford section.

November 9, 1944

President Roosevelt won reelection to a fourth term in yesterday’s election with 407 electoral votes credited to him. Wyoming was one of the few states giving Dewey a majority of its votes. In the local county contests, the incumbents, Storm (Representative) and Minnich (County Commissioner) were reelected.

Recent building and improvements in Sundance include the completion of a new tile garage on the Alice Vines property and the stuccoing of the Frank Williams house. The new implement building of C.D. Roberts is almost completed. Charles Chittim is tearing down the old Mountain View Garage building; he expects to erect a new building there.

Joe Durfee of Upton is the new owner of the Sundance Barber Shop in a transaction completed recently; he began work here last Wednesday.

50 Years Ago

November 6, 1969

Edwin Rounds, U.S. Commissioner in Sundance for approximately 40 years, resigned the position Oct. 29. Named to succeed him was Cecil Hughes, Sundance attorney.

Four Crook County ranchers have been awarded prizes in the 1969 W.C. Demming tree-planting contest: Bob Cronn, Sundance; Ernest Hawken, Sundance; Clyde Raber, Alzada and George D. Heald, Oshoto.

November 10, 1994

Locally, most candidates ran unopposed. However, in two of the races in which there were opposition, the Democratic candidate won. In the race for County Coroner, Mike Frolander, Democrat tallied 1334 votes to 1316 for James Clark, Republican. In the race for sheriff, Zack Szakacs, D. received 1471 votes and Wayne Ludwig, R., 1216. In contrast, Billie L. Barton, R., received 1971 votes to 651 votes going to Robert Norlin for State Senator from Senate District #1.
