Fire dept. to host open house

Meet your local volunteer firefighters at a community appreciation open house next weekend. While the kids enjoy themed activities, adults can tuck in to a buffet lunch and get to know their fire department in closer detail.

“It’s for the community to get to know us a little better and the kids to have a little fun,” says Chief Chris Tomford.

The event is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the volunteer fire department hall on September 7. Stop in during that time to enjoy a lunch of hotdogs, brats, chips, cookies and soda (donation only).

Firefighters will be demonstrating their equipment, such as bunkers and boots, rescue gear and radios, and providing information on fire prevention, including information handouts. AT&T will be on hand to give information about and a demonstration of FirstNet, an effort to deploy the first nationwide broadband wireless network dedicated to public safety.

Meanwhile, the firefighter-themed activities that will attract the attention of the kids include a strider bike course with rock burning house, a meet-and-greet with Marshall the Fire Dog, coloring pages and a water wars tug-o-war.

Tickets will also be available for the raffle to win a Pit Boss 1100 pellet grill. The winning ticket will be drawn at 7 p.m. during the Sundance Beer Festival.
