County families honored in Centennial Ranch program

Of the 20 families honored this year at the state fair as part of the State Historic Preservation Office’s Centennial Farm and Ranch program, three hail from Crook County.

The honorees from this area include Donna, Reese and Wendy Lamb and family of the Lamb Ranch, established in 1919; Gweenie Weaver of the Weaver Ranch, established in 1913; and Gweenie Weaver and Derald and Maritza Maddison of the Maddison Ranch, established in 1912.

The Centennial Farm and Ranch program honors the ranching and farming legacy of the Cowboy State by recognizing families who have lived and worked on their family agricultural operations for at least 100 years. Since the program was re-established in 2006, a total of 306 families have now been recognized.

This year’s honorees were recognized at a ceremony in Douglas during the State Fair, at which Governor Mark Gordon, Senator Mike Enzi, Senator John Barrasso and Congresswoman Liz Cheney addressed an audience of 225 people.
