Cards of Thanks

Thank You

As we begin to open up motorized trails across the Black Hills National Forest, I wanted to take the opportunity to thank the Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) users for their patience, compliance and understanding over the past month while the motorized trail system was closed.

The decision to delay opening seasonally closed roads and close the motorized trail system was very difficult as it impacted not only OHV users, but also local businesses, vendors, lodges, campgrounds and tourism in general. By protecting the roads and trails over the last month, we are now able to open most of them up for the summer.

There are still areas across the Forest that will remain closed due to extreme moisture or damage. These areas will not be open until they dry out or are repaired. Some roads are still under water and a few culverts have been washed out. US Forest Service employees and volunteers will be clearing trees and debris from roads and trails as we get them opened back up.

Again, thank you for your support as we all work together to protect and enjoy the beautiful Black Hills!
