Hulett man guilty on felony possession charges

Robert Huckins of Hulett has been found guilty by a jury and received a suspended sentence and fine on felony possession charges following an incident in which a police officer responded to a domestic dispute and discovered marijuana hidden in a bag of clothes and toys.

Hulett Police Department was dispatched to a residence on January 31, 2018, to investigate a domestic disturbance. On arrival, the officer made contact with Jennifer Baugh, who allegedly admitted of her own accord to “knowingly and intentionally smoking marijuana” with Huckins at the kitchen table while her children were present.

She also allegedly showed the officer a white plastic bag in the living room, which contained children’s items, clothes and toys as well as three sandwich baggies that were each found to contain greater than three ounces of marijuana.

At around 11 p.m., the officer contacted Huckins to advise him that Baugh had been arrested. Huckins allegedly stated he had purchased the marijuana found at the residence and that he had done so in a large quantity “so that he didn’t have to look for it all the time”.

According to court reports, Huckins further claimed that he smokes marijuana daily to help him sleep. A urine test allegedly confirmed this admission of use.

Huckins was found guilty of one felony count of possession of a controlled substance and given a suspended sentence of between 24 and 48 months of incarceration and a $10,000 fine of which $7000 will be suspended pending successful completion of three years of probation.

Baugh was previously sentenced on misdemeanor counts of possession and use of a controlled substance.
