County seeks new maintenance supervisor

The Crook County Commissioners came together on Tuesday morning in the hopes of acting quickly to replace Randy Gill as Maintenance Supervisor.

“I appreciate everything the county has done for me over the past 11 years,” said Gill in his resignation letter, offering to make himself available to assist his replacement during the transition.

Gill handed in his two-week notice on Monday morning and the commissioners moved to accept it at a special meeting on Tuesday morning. Discussion then turned to advertising for Gill’s replacement, with the commissioners expressing their hope that this important position won’t remain empty for very long.

“The sooner the better,” commented Commissioner Fred Devish regarding the advertisement.

The county will advertise the need for a full-time facilities maintenance supervisor. Applications will be accepted at the County Clerk’s Office because, as pointed out by Commissioner Jeanne Whalen, the new supervisor will be the commissioners’ employee.

A salary range will be decided on for the role, but will not be included in the advertisement. County Attorney Joe Baron also suggested checking with Gill to ensure the job description – last used when Gill himself was employed over a decade ago – is up to date.

“I know it’s broader than this particular description,” he said.

The position will be open until filled, but the commissioners planned to review applications received at their upcoming regular meeting on May 7 and decide which candidates should be put forward for interview.
