Anderson earns two Congressional Awards

Cheyenne Civic Center was the venue for the 36th annual Wyoming Congressional Award for Youth Ceremony held April 7. The Wyoming Congressional Delegation, Senator Enzi, Senator Barrasso and Representative Cheney, were in attendance to present 165 youth recipients their medals.

This year there were 70 gold, 64 silver and 63 bronze medals presented to youth that met the challenge to establish and reach their individual goals.

Senator Enzi gave the opening remarks and asked the audience how many medals have been given to Wyoming youth since the beginning of the program. He then gave the answer, "none, they earned them." He proudly touts that Wyoming has more gold medal recipients than any other state, and that is not per capita.

Faith Anderson received the bronze medal for completing 100 volunteer public service hours, 50 personal development hours, 50 physical fitness hours and planning a two-day camping trip in the Big Horn Mountains. Anderson also earned the silver medal by completing an additional 100 volunteer public service hours, 50 more personal development and physical fitness hours and planning a two-night, three-day expedition that included exploring Guernsey State Park and hiking to the summit of Laramie Peak.

Anderson is currently working toward the Gold Medal, which consists of 400 volunteer public service hours, 300 personal development and physical fitness hours and a four-night, five-day expedition or exploration.

The Congressional Award operates as a private-public partnership and receives all funding from the private sector. The only requirement is a willingness to commit to the four program components.
