Trash coupons will be issued again this year

The City of Sundance will once again be issuing free landfill coupons to utility customers this year. The process was changed several years ago from a single “free landfill day” to give residents a longer period of time to bring their trash to the transfer station.

The change was made, said Mayor Paul Brooks, because the day always seemed to conflict with an event such as graduation or Mother’s Day, or the weather decided it would be a good time to offer three days of rain.

The coupon will again be valid for two months: May and June.

“It seems to make everyone happier and it’s easier on [landfill attendants] out there,” commented Clerk-Treasurer Kathy Lenz.

Large projects must be pre-approved, said Public Works Director Mac Erickson, and there is no need to use your coupon to bring tree limbs and other composting projects.

“Absolutely at any time they can come free of charge,” confirmed Brooks.

A motion was made at Tuesday’s meeting to approve the coupons for 2019.
