Times wins six state awards

The Sundance Times is proud to announce we are the recipients of six statewide awards this year from the Wyoming Press Association. Each year, the association honors newspapers across the state and the contributions made to them by members of staff through Pacemaker Awards.

Jeff Moberg placed first for photography in the Spot News category, which looks at news items such as natural disasters and accidents that cannot be prepared for ahead of time. Moberg won with an image of an overturned fuel tanker titled, “Tank-full of trouble”.

Sarah Pridgeon received a first-place award for Arts, Entertainment and Culture Reporting for stories on the Old Stoney rejuvenation project, Ranch A and Rally Week. Judges commented that the articles were “engaging, informative and in-depth”.

Pridgeon placed second in the Education Reporting category for a package of articles covering the change to a four-day week, school safety and funding cuts. Judges commented on the quality of her journalism, reader engagement and the “valuable information” for the public.

Pridgeon also placed second in Business and Energy Reporting for a package of articles focused on Rare Element Resources, potential gold mine exploration in the Bearlodge and attempts by the City of Sundance to bring natural gas to the area.

Pridgeon also received an honorable mention in the Spot News category for her coverage of the hailstorm that swept through the county last year, headlined “Hail of an afternoon”, and an honorable mention in the Column Writing category for “This Side of the Pond”.
