Updates from the Legislature

Greetings from…somewhere over the Pacific Ocean!

I am currently on my way to China to represent Wyoming at the Global Blockchain Summit over the three-day recess of the Legislature. I have been invited to speak to the summit about Wyoming’s pioneering blockchain regulatory framework and how it is helping to bring new business to our state.

A total of 316 bills have been introduced for consideration this session, six of which are mine.

Several bills of note have passed the House and will head to the Senate for consideration. HB0037, Elected official residency requirements passed the House on Wednesday on a vote of 38-19-3.

This bill updates the residency requirements for county elected officials. HB0057, Financial technology sandbox, which passed the House on a vote of 57-1-2, will create a space to test emerging financial products and services in Wyoming.

Committees continue to work bills and forward them to the House for consideration. The Corporations, Elections and Political Subdivisions Committee, of which I serve as Chairman, is working on bills related to elections, insurance code updates and business filings just to name a few. I also continue to serve on the House Rules Committee and as a member of the House Leadership as Majority Whip.
