Bulldog boys start out strong

The boys basketball team opened up play this past weekend at the Upton Invite. Their first opponent, the Midwest Oilers, were no match for the Bulldogs as they came out on top with a 57-25 win.

The Bulldogs were led in scoring by Kye Taylor and Tanner Hofland, who each put up 11 points in the game, followed by Landon Martin, who contributed 10. Josiah Rudloff was in control of the boards for Sundance as he pulled down 12 in the game. With a balanced scoring attack, the Bulldogs looked to take that momentum into game two against the Cheyanne East JV.

Game two saw the Bulldogs leading throughout the majority of the game but the relentless press from the Thunderbirds wore the Bulldogs down, causing too many turnovers down the stretch as the T-Birds handed the Bulldogs their first loss of the season, 49-62. The Bulldogs saw Wyatt Gillespie leading the way with 10 points and 11 rebounds, followed by Martin, Taylor and Isaiah Kammerer contributing eight points each for the game.

With a 1-1 record in the tournament, the Bulldogs were up against the Eagles of Tongue River for the 3rd/4th place game on Saturday. In another tight game, the Bulldogs were able to come out on top with a 55-53 win.

Kye Taylor led the Bulldogs in scoring, putting up 18 points in the game, followed closely by Hofland and Craig Chandler, who each had 11 points in the game. While Chandler was also controlling the boards for the Bulldogs, pulling down 11 rebounds, Landon Martin was running away with the ball getting 5 steals in the game.

With the two-point win over the Eagles, the Bulldogs found themselves getting third place and off to a good start in the Upton Invite.

The Bulldogs will host the Newcastle Dogies on Thursday for the opening play of the Stateline Shootout and travel to Belle Fourche on Friday.
