The Sundance Bulldog track team took advantage of the nice weather and participated in the Mick Tonkel Fly High Classic in Upton last Friday. The girls’ team dominated the 400 meter run with four Bulldogs placing in the top five. Maddison Neiman took top honors with a time of 1:05.02, teammate Halyn Cooney was right on her tail finishing in second with a time of 1:05.72. Track season is underway for the Sundance Bulldogs. The team was able to catch an early meet last week as they participated in the Laura Chord Invitational in Newcastle on Thursday. Being one of the first meets of the season, there were a total of 15 teams participating. Despite the large number of participants, the Bulldogs were able to see success in multiple events. Lexi Marchant, pictured with her mom and dad, Brian and Jerlyn Marchant, of Sundance High School was the 2024 winner of the Bob Carey Award given annually to one girls' basketball player from a 1A/2A school. The Carey Award was instituted in 1996 in honor of long-time Lander High School Coach Bob Carey. Coach Carey was the only coach in Wyoming to have won both a boys' and girls' State Championship in basketball. He was also instrumental in starting girls' basketball in the state of Wyoming.
