The Sundance Bulldogs varsity boys' cross country team won the Irrigator Invitational in Newell, SD. on Fri., Sept. 15. The Bulldogs crossed the finish line with three top-ten finishes in the competition, including a first-place finish. There was a rededication ceremony at Sundance High School as the Sundance volleyball team held the first home games in the newly refurbished gymnasium. The Upton-Sundance Patriots were on the road once again this last week as they faced off against the Tongue River Eagles. The Eagles found their way to the end zone in the first quarter of play and continued to make their way back throughout the game. It was an exciting weekend for the Bulldog golfers as Savanah Peterson won the 2A State Golf Championship with a first hole playoff against Upton's Ciarra Moore. Peterson and Moore were tied after two rounds of play, with a score of 194, at the state championship, this tie sent them to a playoff where Peterson earned the championship. It was a rough go for the Upton-Sundance Patriots this past week as they faced the Big Horn Rams in Big Horn last Friday. The Rams took the opening kickoff and set the pace for the game, marching their way down the field and into the endzone on the opening drive, all the while taking very little time off the clock. The Bulldog’s tackled a challenging course, with improved race times and new goals for the upcoming competitions. The Sundance Lady Bulldogs took to the court in Big Horn this past week, participating in the Big Horn Invitational. The Bulldogs sailed through the pool play, dropping only one game against Rocky Mountain. Day two of the invitational set the Lady Bulldogs against Riverside, Lingle-Ft. Laramie and Tongue River. On the road last week, the Upton-Sundance Patriots traveled to Shoshoni to face the Cokeville Panthers. In the past, the Panthers have squashed Upton-Sundance’s chances of moving on in the playoffs, but this time it was the Patriots who took the regular season victory with a 13-6 win over Cokeville. It was a beautiful night for football as the Upton-Sundance Patriots kicked off their 2023 season in Upton against the Moorcroft Wolves. The award is presented by the National High School Basketball Coaches Association and honors John R. Wooden, a coach who devoted his life to making an impact on lives through basketball.
