    Janice C. (Sann) Smith passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 29, 2023, at the age of 86 from extended medical conditions after suffering a stroke. She grew up in San Diego, California with fond memories of time spent at the beach. She was proud to be the first in her family to graduate high school and attend college. Janice was an avid hand quilter and greatly enjoyed corresponding with pen pals across the country. She came into this world in the farmhouse of her grandparents, Elmer and Viola Penny, near Petersburg, Nebraska. She spent her youth on farms around Petersburg before moving to the Four Corners Area when she was about three. From there the family moved to Newcastle, Wyoming where her dad worked at the refinery.
