  • Santa comes to town

    Dec 27, 2018

Santa and his helper made a special stop at Sundance State Bank last week to field a few last minute Christmas requests from local children. All reports were that the jolly old elf had another successful trip and was looking forward to a break. Those in the know indicated the big guy may occasionally be spotted refereeing the occasional junior high basketball game in his downtime....

  • CCMSD leads state in patient feedback

    Sarah Pridgeon|Dec 27, 2018

For a hospital that doesn’t like to submit for awards and accolades, believing that it takes away from the more important goal of caring for patients, there’s a certain irony in the news that Crook County Medical Services District is now leading the state in patient feedback and has placed on the list of Best Nursing Homes compiled by U.S. News & World Report. The latter recognizes performance and quality of care on a national scale, says CEO Nathan Hough. The former is a statewide ranking sys...

  • This Side of the Pond

    Sarah Pridgeon|Dec 27, 2018

The international news may seem filled with doom and gloom, but that’s not always the case around Christmas. One of my favorite things about the season is watching the kindness and generosity – and, of course, having the occasional giggle at silly ideas. Such as the 500 wiener dogs (known in my part of the world as sausage dogs) who gathered with their humans in London’s Hyde Park last week, every single one of them wearing a Christmas outfit. I assume the event was not their own idea, but t...

  • Chapel of Faith

    Dec 27, 2018

CONCEPT(ual) “My soul waits in silence for God only; from Him is my salvation.” Psalm 62:1 A “concept” is an abstract idea, a general notion or plan. It is the framework that commences with a thought and progresses as things are put together, tried, kept or rejected until the final product is realized. It can be much or mean very little. What it cannot be is a single equation with multiple unknowns for that results in a present that has no future. All life runs for a single purpose, without many realizing the holy framework it is draped upon. M...

  • The Year in Review

    Sarah Pridgeon|Dec 27, 2018

January As the year began, locals who had hoped for Sundance to become the next big source of rare earth minerals were pleased to hear that Rare Element Resources was aiming to restart the permitting process for its planned mine in the Bear Lodge Mountains. Meanwhile, Oneok Pipelines announced that it would be constructing a second pipeline following the same route as the Bakken line through Crook County. The City of Sundance began the process of acquiring the piece of property on which Central...
