    Sarah Pridgeon|Nov 28, 2019

After an emotional hearing in the courtroom on Wednesday, Lesley Raber has been sentenced to one year in jail with six months of that time suspended for the misdemeanor crime of homicide by vehicle. Judge Thomas Rumpke heard testimony from both sides, including evidence of Raber’s good behavior while out on bond and impact statements from the family of Nancy Robison, the motorcyclist who was killed when Raber pulled out in front of her at an intersection on Highway 212 last August. Deputy County Attorney Linda Black, for the prosecution, b...

    Sarah Pridgeon|Nov 28, 2019

A 73-year-old hunter from Riverton got turned around in what he’d thought was a familiar part of Boundary Gulch last week. Thanks to the combined efforts of the Crook County Sheriff’s Office and Crook County Volunteer Search & Rescue, he was rescued and brought to safety. When the hunter was finally located on November 19, he had managed to travel five miles from his starting point through treacherous terrain. The hunter knew the area, having been to Crook County a number of times before. It...

  • Just in time for winter

    Sarah Pridgeon|Nov 28, 2019

Long-running conversations about the future of Sundance’s ambulance fleet came to an abrupt end on Thursday when the Crook County Medical Services District Board of Trustees was presented with a possible solution and instantly approved it. For the last year, the Sundance City Council has been dissatisfied with the traditional arrangement, in which the city owns the ambulances and is responsible for their maintenance and storage. This, according to Mayor Paul Brooks, is a throwback to a time w...

    Sarah Pridgeon|Nov 28, 2019

A 33-year-old Sioux Falls area man lost his life earlier this month in an ATV accident on Rifle Pit Road. The crash was reported just after midnight on November 13. The group went into Sundance to eat dinner in one vehicle, then returned to the ranch house to pick up their ATVs and head back to the...

Get your Christmas shopping done early while supporting your town’s economy this weekend with two opportunities to celebrate local business. The first of the two traditions is Small Business Saturday, introduced through the Sundance Main Street Committee in 2016 and part of the Shop S...

  • Letter to the Editor

    Nov 28, 2019

I am writing in regards to the article in the November 21 Sundance Times written by Michael Illiano about the RINO website. In response to the comments in the article made by Gail Symons, yes, the Republican Party is an ideology, an ideology of “timeless truths,” which is right off the front page of the Wyoming Republican Platform. The Wyoming Republican Party has a platform which honors Biblical Judeo-Christian principles of morality, the US Constitution, the Wyoming Constitution and the Declaration of Independence. The Platform supports sma...

  • Ths Side of the Pond

    Sarah Pridgeon|Nov 28, 2019

Few things make me happier than crossovers between my culture and yours, but this week’s combo is the most bizarre I’ve seen in a while. It involves house paint, spellings and the nation’s favorite sketch show – oh, and a newspaper, because all good things need to involve newspapers. The paint in question is a luxury brand called Farrow & Ball, which hails from my home county of Dorset and has been churning out wall coverings since 1946 that are based on historic archives and the natural...

The Riven Country of Senga Munro, a novel based in northeast Wyoming by local author Renée Carrier, is now available in both ebook and paperback. Touching on themes of love, loss and restoration, the book follows the story of Senga as she comes to terms with the death of her young daughter. “In the aftermath, she learns what it means to be ‘other’ in the rural West. Senga can see what others can’t in the novel’s thread of magical realism,” says Carrier. “An arrow shot through time by a nineteenth century Cheyenne scout jolts her awake from her...
