  • CCMSD to formally split from foundation

    Sarah Pridgeon|Nov 4, 2021

Concerned that the goals of Crook County Medical Services District (CCMSD) no longer match those of the foundation with which it was once aligned, the Board of Trustees has decided to pursue its own fundraising arm. The move follows the recent announcement that the Crook County Medical Foundation (CCMF) has leased space in its new Red Bluffs clinic building in Hulett to Campbell County Health, rather than to the county’s own hospital district. Months of negotiations between the two entities failed to bear fruit. The foundation was not w...

  • CCMSD considers incentives, no mandates

    Sarah Pridgeon|Nov 4, 2021

Crook County Medical Services District is looking to reward employees who get vaccinated for COVID-19 through an incentivization program funded by the state. Money has been set aside at the state level for this purpose, said CEO Micki Lyons, and so it will just be a matter of figuring out the best way to utilize it locally. At last week’s meeting of the Board of Trustees, Chairman Mark Erickson questioned whether this will be an incentive or a requirement. “It’s still a choice, right?” he asked. Lyons was quick to confirm that this is, indeed,...

  • Deer numbers could challenge hunters

    Nov 4, 2021

The Wyoming Game & Fish Department is also now actively monitoring the spread of chronic wasting disease (CWD) in deer throughout the state. Deer Epizootic Hemorrhagic Disease (EHD) has caused a "fairly significant" die-off among deer...

  • County tops state statistics for employment rates

    Sarah Pridgeon|Nov 4, 2021

n a month when unemployment rates fell across the state, Crook County was in the top three Wyoming counties in terms of employment rates. With just 2% unemployment during the month of September, Crook fell just behind Teton County’s 1.8% and matched Weston County, which also had a 2% unemployment rate. Unemployment rates decreased in every one of Wyoming’s counties in September, according to the Department of Workforce Services (DWS). This is unsurprising, considering that unemployment rates were higher than usual in September, 2020, due to...

  • Letter to the Editor

    Nov 4, 2021

Dear Editor, People have questioned why so many people are vaccine hesitant, especially here in northeast Wyoming. I think a quick look at a Pfizer vaccine fact sheet available at vaccine distribution outlets will shed some light on why folks are not trusting of the information they are getting on these vaccines. I offer these direct quotes from a revised sheet dated 23 August 2021. Third paragraph down on page 1: “The FDA-approved COMIRNATY (COVID-19 Vaccine, mRNA) and the FDA-authorized Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine under the Emergency U...

  • This Side of the Pond

    Sarah Pridgeon|Nov 4, 2021

Considering that the only complaint I have ever had about the War of Independence is the wasteful tossing of teabags into the wrong kind of water, you’d think my loyalty to a proper cup of tea would be absolute. But this is not the case for, while I might be British, I am also European. The Brits have been on board with the wake-up juice for half a millennium, since the first coffeehouses opened and the British East India Company took to importing it. These days, of course, it’s all about the...
