With COVID-19 hitting this region hard, CEO Micki Lyons is seeking to provide hazard pay for employees of Crook County Medical Services District (CCMSD). The main hospital has been closed to visitation and regional hospitals are now full to overflowing, she said on Friday; employees are feeling the strain. After reviewing its own finances, Crook County Medical Services District has amended its counterclaim against Health Management Services, the management company with which it severed ties earlier this year. CCMSD now alleges that the company deliberately committed fraud against the district. HMS filed a second lawsuit against the district in August after the original complaint was withdrawn because it did not meet the standards of the Governmental Claims Act. The pandemic has continued to worsen in Wyoming over the last week – as well as across most of the Midwest. Murray Hugh Dennis, 65, of rural western Crook County passed away at Gillette, Wyoming, on October 13, 2020, following a sudden illness. Murray was born in Gillette on August 24, 1955, to Raymond and Daisy (Blakeman) Dennis. He grew up on the family ranch near New Haven and went to Homestake School nearby, followed by Moorcroft High School where he graduated in 1973. Two years ago, volunteers from Powder River Energy were able to raise enough money through their annual walking taco stand to enable the Crook County Library Foundation to purchase a “book bike”. It’s taken a while to arrive, but Librarian Kim Heaster was able to show off the new purchase to representatives from PRECorp on Tuesday morning. With the change in weather bringing snow, rain and considerably colder temperatures to the county, there will no longer be restrictions on burning for county residents.
