In response to concerns raised by parents and the community, the Crook County School District has made revisions to its new policy on suicide prevention. “It’s a kinder terminology,” says Superintendent Mark Broderson, stressing that the overall goal is “about making it so it works for the kids and the staff.” The new wording alters the policy to say that a student experiencing depression “may be in need of additional support” to benefit fully from the educational program of the school. Adelaida “Eda” Gose, 90, died peacefully in her sleep on September 26, 2019, at Weston County Health Services. Eda was born to Julius and Martha Frederiksen at home on the ranch near Horton, Wyoming, on October 11, 1928, the first of six children. She graduated from Newcastle High School in 1945 and attended Black Hills Teacher College, graduating in 1946. She started teaching in rural schools in fall of 1946. On September 19, 2019, Jan Charles “JC” Houghton gained his place in heaven. JC enjoyed a full, happy life, despite the past several years of fighting Parkinson’s disease. Born in Smith Center, Kansas, on August 12, 1936, to Sidney and Lona Houghton, Jan was the oldest of four children. He grew up in Deadwood and Spearfish, South Dakota, graduating from Spearfish High School in 1953. Crook County Family Violence and Crook County Attorney’s Victim Witness Program have selected Carol Bui as their Volunteer of the Year for 2018-19. Bui has volunteered for the former organization for ten years and the latter for two, with over 1300 hours contributed in the last year alone. Bui was nominated for her dedicated service and also her passion, knowledge and drive for helping others. CHEYENNE — Ruth Van Mark was appointed Monday by Gov. Mark Gordon to be Wyoming’s first public records ombudsman. The Wyoming Game and Fish Department will be closing the 2019 watercraft registrations and preparing for the 2020 season during the month of October.
