An unprecedented number of new cases of COVID-19 have appeared in Crook County over the last week, including a small outbreak within the school district for the first time since in-person learning resumed. A semi trailer carrying a load of soda pop products came off the road during last Monday's storm, unfortunately leading to the death of its driver. Weather conditions are believed to have caused of the crash. The incident occurred on September 7 at approximately 7:20 p.m. and was located on I-90 eastbound at milepost 185, according to Lieutenant Tim Boumeester, Wyoming Highway Patrol. With just a couple of weeks to go until the 2020 Census wraps up, Crook County has had one of the lowest self-response rates in the state – and the nation. Efforts are still underway to complete the population picture before the deadline at the end of the month. Dickie D. Conzelman, 73, passed away on September 10, 2020. Dick was born April 12, 1947, in Spearfish, South Dakota, the youngest of six children to Glenn Conzelman and Effie Mae (Lawrence) Conzelman. He attended a rural school through the eighth grade and graduated from Hulett High School in 1965. Dick enlisted in the US Navy and left in a blizzard on April 19, 1966, arriving in Denver, Colorado, 12 hours AWOL. Gary Harold Donner was born in Billings, Montana, March 12, 1933, the second youngest of Charlie and Dora Harvey Donner. Gary passed away on September 7, 2020, in Crook Memorial Hospital in Sundance, Wyoming. Gary moved at a young age from Idaho to Rozet, Wyoming, where he attended school and lived the country life. Applications opened this week for a new state initiative called the Meat Processing Expansion Grant Program (MPEG), an attempt to strengthen the local food supply chain and address meat shortages at retail locations and food banks.
