High winds and golf-ball sized hail during a storm on Monday evening caused severe damage at Devils Tower National Monument, leading to a temporary closure of the site. According to Emergency Management Coordinator Ed Robinson, the damage included blown-over trees, including one that fell on a building, as well as scattered garbage and significant damage to vehicles. In addition, he says, around 240 people in the Devils Tower area were without power after 13 poles came down. Recovery efforts...
With the primary complete, voters will now be asked to turn attention to their next set of choices. This year’s general election ballot will contain two local propositions for the community to decide on and one constitutional amendment. SPOT Tax The first proposition relates to the Specific Purpose Sales and Use Tax, better known as SPOT. The money raised through this 1% tax goes directly to the four municipalities and county and is used for infrastructure needs that are often difficult to fund elsewhere. SPOT is the “sixth penny” tax and i...

The party did not specify how those funds were to be used. They could be used for administrative costs, voter education, legal defense or candidate support. As the contributor, the party cannot govern the use of a...
One skunk is bad enough – a whole family is guarantee of a torturous summer. Such is the position we are still attempting to extricate ourselves from, after weeks with squatters on our land. Our first hint of infiltration was a direct spray to the face for the littlest dog on the land, who can fit into the sort of hidey hole that a skunk enjoys for a sleep. Our second hint came a few nights later. We recently lost our outside cat to old age, but that hasn't stopped the largest of the parents-in-...
Like the rest of Wyoming, Crook County’s population has seen some changes over the past couple of years. Perhaps the most significant is that the state experienced the fastest population aging in the nation between 2022 and 2023. During that timeframe, according to data from the state Economic Analysis Division, the total population of Wyoming only grew by 0.4% but the population aged 65 and over grew by 3.5%. This saw the median age for Wyoming increase by 0.4 years to 39.7 years, which is slightly above the national median age of 39.1. W...

Senior Savanah Peterson picked up right where she left off last spring, taking first place at the match with an overall score of 88. Fellow senior, Avery Marchant, also put up an impressive score of 99, enough to secure her a third place finish. Rou...
