Rally Week was relatively calm this year, with few arrests, no fatalities and a generally cheerful atmosphere throughout the county. Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) unveiled its construction projects for the next half-decade in a presentation for the county commissioners last week, outlining over $44 million in planned spending within Crook County. At last week’s regular meeting, the Sundance City Council pondered what “next steps” are available when a resident is sent a nuisance letter but fails to have made any progress on fixing that nuisance once a period of time has passed. Mayor Paul Brooks asked this question of City Attorney Mark Hughes, referring specifically to a letter that was sent out a year ago after a nuisance was identified by the fire chief. Donna Jean (Myers) Peplow, 86 of Sundance, Wyoming, passed away Thursday, August 8, 2019, at Crook County Long Term Care. Donna was born December 18, 1932, to Kermit and Phoebe (Brown) Myers; she attended country school in Langdon, North Dakota. She married Duane Peplow on June 20, 1954. The couple made their home in Caviler, North Dakota, before moving to Sundance in 1978. Donna worked and retired from the Crook County Hospital and Nursing Home. Robert Larry Hill, 75 of Belle Fourche, South Dakota, passed away peacefully on August 5, 2019, at Ava’s House in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, after a ten-day battle with stroke symptoms. Council gives initial nod to e-cig ban CHEYENNE (WNE) — The Cheyenne City Council voted 8-1 Monday night to approve the second reading of an ordinance amendment adding electronic smoking devices to the list of smoking instruments banned in public places. Public Works Director Mac Erickson is negotiating a one-off payment from Oneok Pipelines that will cover the cost of wear and tear on city roads during construction of the Elk Creek Pipeline this summer. The company is happy to reach an agreement, Erickson said, but the Sundance City Council felt the initial sum was not quite enough to cover those costs. Strata Energy has been granted permission to use low pH mining solution at its in-situ uranium mine near Oshoto, a move that the company hopes will vastly improve recovery rates.
