    Thanks to the diligent work of local crews in the days after the blaze began, a little luck when it came to the weather and the arrival of a top-level management team, the worst of the Fish Wildfire had passed by the end of last week. Though the border continued to creep outwards, and the fire continued to threaten a number of homes in the area, no structures were reported lost and no injuries were reported among the firefighting crews.     The Sundance City Council will move ahead with the process to rezone a 48.5-acre swathe of property on the south edge of town that belongs to Croell Companies. Owner Roger Croell made the request in June, telling the council it would facilitate construction of new buildings on the property to address the company’s recent and future growth.   • County calls for rethink of Black Hills National Forest Plan assessments

    Crook County has joined the call for the U.S. Forest Service to rethink its draft assessments for the revised Black Hills National Forest Plan. A comment letter submitted by the county commissioners touts "significant concerns" with the science used to create the drafts, and with the level of public input solicited so far.     This year’s primary election will take place on August 16 and voter ID will be required for the first time. You will be asked to show an acceptable form of identification when voting in person, which can include a Wyoming driver’s license, a tribal ID card, a valid passport, a DL or ID card from another state, a UW, community college or public school student ID or a valid Medicare or Medicaid insurance card.     Joyce Maxine Hartl passed away in her sleep on August 3, 2022, surrounded by family at Weston County Manor. Mass of Christian Burial was August 8 at the Sundance Methodist Church followed by lunch and then she was laid to rest at Black Hills National Cemetery east of Sturgis, South Dakota. The youngest of five and arriving many years after her older siblings, she was raised and loved by her parents, sisters and brothers like a daughter.
