  • Stealing the show

    Aug 5, 2021

This year's fair concluded over the weekend with the annual parade through Sundance, following this year's theme of "unmasking the outlaws, bandits and thieves and stealing the show." Spectators lined up to wave and watch as horses, vehicles, musicians and more made their way along Main Street. The parade brought to an end another successful week of animal shows and entertainment. As always, the fair attracted visitors and participants from all across the county and beyond. Preliminary reports...

Kuhl is accused of placing a customer’s license tabs on her own vehicle after claiming they were lost in the mail, adjusting the tax system to hid...

  • Delta variant causing surge of new cases

    Sarah Pridgeon|Aug 5, 2021

Crook is among the counties nationwide in which the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) is once again recommending everyone should wear a mask indoors, regardless of vaccination status. The new guidance also recommends that students, teachers and staff in K-12 schools return to wearing masks. The guidance is based on community transmission of COVID-19. In Crook County, as for most of Wyoming, this has recently been upgraded to “high,” which is the most concerning level of transmission on the CDC’s ranking system. Only four Wyoming counties curre...

  • Commission sets annual mill levies

    Sarah Pridgeon|Aug 5, 2021

The number of mills to be levied in this county has not changed this year, though the county’s valuation has once again slightly increased. This, said County Assessor Theresa Curren on Monday, is why the amount each entity will receive this fiscal year has gone up. This year’s valuation, as fixed by the state board, is $220,612,930. This compares to a valuation of $214,543,363 in 2020 and $201,069,634 in 2019. “It’s just a little bit higher because of the amount collected,” Curren told the county commissioners as she presented this year’s pr...

  • We will miss Mike Enzi

Gillette News Record, July 31 Via Wyoming News Exchange|Aug 5, 2021

Sometimes, people come into our lives and change them forever. We believe that happens for communities, too. Sometimes, people come into communities and change them forever. Mike Enzi is one of those. He came to Gillette in 1969 and spent the next 52 years being not only its biggest cheerleader, but also its clutch three-point shooter. That was Enzi when he first decided to run for mayor and then turned the boomtown in the right direction. That was Enzi as a state legislator when he helped lead the state out of significant downturn. That was...

  • It

Dave Jagemann, Pastor, Chapel of Faith|Aug 5, 2021

“I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly” (John 10:10). IT: A pronoun used to refer to that one previously mentioned. We are often told in this world to get with it. A movie has been made named “IT”, and we are usually the last ones to realize we have lost it. One thing we all wrestle with on earth is how we decide to live it, and more importantly as Jesus stated, “to have it [life] more abundantly.” The life we live is consumed with making it (work, money, family), keeping it and the fear of losing it....

  • This Side of the Pond

    Sarah Pridgeon|Aug 5, 2021

You can’t please all of the people all of the time, even when they’re on vacation. We’ve had our fair share of baffling reviews for tourist destinations here in Wyoming, from the person who didn’t think there was much point going up to Devils Tower because you can “clearly see the rock approaching when you drive at it” to the one who thought Yellowstone was awful because “it was too hot the day I went.” It’s the same in my homeland, where even places that are littered with history both recent an...
