Mathilda Mae (Peterson) Grubb, 86 of rural Sundance, Wyoming, passed away Sunday, May 14, 2023 in Newcastle, Wyoming. Mathilda was born on April 12, 1937, at the Peterson Ranch in Weston County to Leonard and Harriett (Waters) Peterson, 45 minutes ahead of her twin brother Martin. She obtained her elementary education at local country schools, attended Newcastle High School her freshman year and finished school at Sundance High School, graduating in 1955. The 55th annual Wyoming State Art Symposium was held April 19-21 at the Ford Wyoming Center in Casper. Over 4200 pieces of student artwork were displayed. 40 First Lady Awards were selected to be displayed for the year at the governor's mansion. Approximately 1500 students, 75 high school art educators, several colleges and art institutes participated in this event. The Wyoming Supreme Court has denied a Newcastle man’s appeal against his sentence on possession charges after illegal substances were found in his vehicle during a traffic stop in Crook County. David Garrison pleaded guilty to one count of possession of marijuana as part of a plea deal. He was sentenced by Judge Stuart S. Healy III in November, 2022 to between one and three years in a state penal institution and a fine of $500. Simple personal actions can help residents escape some potentially serious insect-spread diseases linked with warmer weather and outdoor activities, according to the Wyoming Department of Health (WDH). The Sundance Track team competed in Torrington at the 2A East Regional Meet this past weekend. "The teams competed well, even in the puddles," coach Julie Cross commented.
