Sundance is implementing a year-round deer cull in response to evidence that chronic wasting disease (CWD) may be much more prevalent than previously thought in the vicinity of the city. Game Warden Nate Holst attended last week’s meeting of the city council to present a proposal from Wyoming Game & Fish. Most years, explained Holst, the city applies for a license to cull a certain number of deer. This year, the quota was 50 deer, which was subsequently filled. The Sundance Economic Development Committee intends to focus its time over the next year towards looking for ways to promote the development of new housing within the city. “In order to get more revenue for our city, we have to get more houses,” said Jeremy Holt, committee chairman. The community building in Beulah has undergone quite the makeover over the last few months, and representatives from the civic committee offered their thanks to the Crook County Commissioners last week for their support through the process. The demolition of higbee’s café is still causing heartburn for the Sundance City Council, leading to a motion at last week’s meeting for City Attorney Mark Hughes to send a letter to the owners asking them to be more cognizant of public safety. Janice Elizabeth Eschedor, 78, of Sundance, Wyoming, passed away on Thursday, February 2, 2023, at her daughter's home in Rockville, Maryland. Jan was born and raised in Verndale, Minnesota. She moved to Minneapolis right after high school to work. She met Gary and together they raised their children in N.E. Minneapolis. Jan was successful in creating a decorating business in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area. After 35 years in Minneapolis, they retired outside of Sundance on a small property. A group of landowners from the Hulett area have found themselves disagreeing over the maintenance required on a private road that serves an estimated ten families. On behalf of the City of Sundance, which is sponsoring a grant application to complete the Old Stoney refurbishment project, Mayor Paul Brooks and Clerk-Treasurer Theresa Curren recently met with the Wyoming Business Council (WBC). The Sundance Bulldog wrestling team competed this past Thursday at the Powder River Conference meet held in Moorcroft. The short-handed Bulldogs were led by Junior Jacob Comer who placed first at Hwt.
