Back in the day, said Clerk Treasurer Kathy Lenz to the council, the City of Sundance used to have an annual clean-up day. This began with efforts from the community to tidy and clean the streets and parks of the city and ended with a BBQ to reward the participants for their effort. For the last few years, the City of Sundance has issued a free trash coupon to each of its utility customers. This coupon has offered citizens the opportunity to bring their trash to the city’s transfer station completely free of charge on a day of their choosing. The coupons replaced the old system of a “free landfill day”, which was a single, designated day on which tipping fees for everyone were waived. The Vital Statistics Services division of the Wyoming Department of Health has released data showing that 2021 was a second year of unprecedented death rates in this state. However, there were also more births and marriages in Wyoming, and fewer divorces. A total of 6572 deaths were recorded in 2021 and 5986 in 2020. For context, 2019 saw a lower death rate of 5122. With the blessing of the City of Sundance, summer movie nights are set to come to Sundance Square this June. The council has granted permission for the Sundance Chamber of Commerce to make use of the equipment at the city's newest park and to use the concession stand at no charge. The latter decision was made because the chamber is a nonprofit entity. The city does plan to charge a fee for use of the concession stand for profit-based enterprises. Bertha Mae (Seeley) Billings, age 82, passed away April 13, 2022, at Monument Health in Rapid City, South Dakota, due to a lengthy illness, with her family by her side. Bertha was born to parents Carl and Alma Seeley on November 1, 1939, in Sundance, Wyoming, and was raised in Newcastle Wyoming. Bertha met the love of her life Ray Allen Billings in Newcastle, Wyoming and married two weeks later on September 2, 1958. They celebrated their life together for 64 years. Family members sentenced for theft from contractor CHEYENNE (WNE) — Four members of a family were sentenced Wednesday afternoon in Laramie County District Court after they were accused of working together to steal from a local contractor.
