Judge Michael Deegan will not be granting a request from the defense to move the homicide trial of Jessie Johnson to a new venue. Unless it proves impossible to seat a 12-person jury, the trial will take place in Crook County. Defense attorney Don Fuller filed a motion to change the venue at the pre-trial hearing on March 19 through “an abundance of caution”. No high school state championship embodies more of the spirit of the West than the Wyoming State Youth Hunter Education Challenge. The 12th annual event will be held June 8 at the Upton Gun Club. Marilyn Jenis Millard, 73, of Sundance, Wyoming, passed away on Monday, April 8, 2019, at her home south of Sundance. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 18, 2019, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Sundance. Donald Dewey Sipe passed away on January 1, 2019, at his home in Spearfish, South Dakota. A Celebration of Life will be held at 4 p.m. on Friday, April 26 at the Spearfish Canyon Golf Course. Sundance resident Amber Nehmer has been charged with multiple felonies after law enforcement was informed she was using and selling drugs while children were present in her home. According to a press release from the United States Attorney’s Office, Gabriel Rodgers of Sundance, age 19, has been sentenced for possession of stolen firearms and conspiracy to distribute LSD and marijuana. Rodgers was arrested in Casper. He was sentenced by Federal District Court Judge Alan B. Johnson to 44 months of imprisonment followed by 36 months of supervised release and ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $27,115.57. Because of the continued generous support of the people throughout this county, during the month of March the pantry aided more than 138 persons. This included 11 new clients, 45 under the age of 18 and 31 over the age of 60. We shared food with the Blessings programs in Sundance, Moorcroft and Hulett, which collectively serve 150 youth under the age of 18. A five-mile section of I-90 east of Moorcroft is scheduled to be rehabilitated utilizing the Cold-in-Place (CIR) recycling technique, beginning in the next few weeks. Preliminary preparations of the interstate between mile marker 160 and 155 have begun. Once the cross-overs at either end of the job are in place, traffic will be switched to one-lane. A small rural school of 160 students, K through 12, in Hulett, is the recipient of a new program this year thanks to our local Crook County Cattlewomen. Instead of the highly processed soy-based meat traditionally served for the lunch program, students and staff now enjoy locally grown pure beef. We believe when kids eat better, they learn better. Cheyenne Civic Center was the venue for the 36th annual Wyoming Congressional Award for Youth Ceremony held April 7. The Wyoming Congressional Delegation, Senator Enzi, Senator Barrasso and Representative Cheney, were in attendance to present 165 youth recipients their medals.
