  • Signs of flooding across county

    Sarah Pridgeon|Mar 28, 2019

Though officials had been bracing themselves to face flooding across Crook County, so far Mother Nature has been kind. The March 13 snowstorm brought extra moisture to the region and was followed by several warm days, prompting concern that the sudden melt would cause creeks to top their banks and roads to wash out. At present, many county waterways are running high or beginning to escape their banks. Hulett Clerk Melissa Bears reported on Monday morning that the Belle Fourche had overflowed in...

  • No visiting

    Sarah Pridgeon|Mar 28, 2019

In the wake of a flu outbreak, the Crook County Memorial Hospital will be keeping the doors to the nursing home closed for the time being for the protection of patients and residents. Not everyone realizes the prolific effects that flu can have if it infiltrates a nursing home, says Dr. Heath Waddell. “It looks like this flu season has been fairly bad for people and there have been lots and lots of hospitalizations, but the people most at risk and are dying are those over the age of 65,” he says...

  • Harsh winter for wildlife

    Sarah Pridgeon|Mar 28, 2019

Freezing temperatures, little to eat and snow-filled storms have been a challenge for Crook County’s wildlife over the winter, but Game Warden Chris Teter says things could have been much worse. Certainly we have lost some antelope, particularly on the west side of the county, and I think there has been a fair number of deer fawn mortaliti...

    Mike Enzi, U.S. Senator, R-Wyo|Mar 28, 2019

By U.S. Senator Mike Enzi, R-Wyo. The Green New Deal, plain and simple, is a pipe dream for forcing a massive expansion of socialist policies on the American people. Some might say this is an overdramatic statement, but this 14-page bill lays it out in black and white, written in plain English. There isn’t much ambiguity when you describe your legislation as “...a new national, social, industrial and economic mobilization on a scale not seen since World War II and the New Deal era…” What does it mean in practical terms? It means elimina...

Consequently, I've spent the last eight years not eating crumpets and it has only just occurred to me that it doesn't matter whether I can buy them around these parts. I felt compelled to share this discovery with you so that you, too, can change up your lunchtime sandwiches or introduce a new family teatime tradition....
