    Sarah Pridgeon|Mar 9, 2023

A wildfire prevention program in California is set to bolster the timber supply here in Crook County, according to an announcement made by the U.S. Forest Service (USFS) last week. Through this program, Neiman Sawmills is expected to receive surplus fire salvage logs from areas with too much wood and not enough of a market for it. “We’re honored to be a partner with the Forest Service and NWTF on this pilot project,” said Jim Neiman, President of the family-owned forest management company with operations across the west. “Collectively, we’re h...

  • Crossover voting bill becomes law

    Sarah Pridgeon|Mar 9, 2023

Swapping your party affiliation from Republican to Democrat or vice versa on the day of an election will no longer be possible in Wyoming. HB 103 took effect last week without the signature of Governor Mark Gordon, who felt the legislation may cause confusion for voters but was not sufficiently flawed to merit a veto. Voters looking to register with a party, whether for the first time or to change their affiliation, will now need to do so before nominations open for the next primary election. Requesting a major party ballot constitutes a declar...

  • Season of struggle

    Sarah Pridgeon|Mar 9, 2023

The toughest winter in a while might have been easier on Crook County's ranchers if it hadn't come on the heels of several years of drought. "Cold and snow is a problematic thing, whether you're talking for calving or just wintering cattle and yearlings," says Wade Crawford of Crook County Veterinary Service. "You end up having to feed more hay, which was in limited supply last year." Two to three years of dry weather meant that nobody had much extra feed for their animals, he says. "What we...

  • This Side of the Pond

    Sarah Pridgeon|Mar 9, 2023

Honestly, leave it to a man to decide that, if a woman has done great and wonderful things, it must be because she’s secretly not a woman at all. I came across an old conspiracy theory this week involving my second favorite queen – a tall tale that was originally spread by none other than Bram Stoker. This latter fact is not too surprising. The man who invented Dracula was likely blessed in the imagination stakes (see what I did there?). It’s also not shocking that Queen Elizabeth I has attra...

Ogden Driskill and Albert Sommers, Senate President and Speaker of House|Mar 9, 2023

As the leaders of the House and Senate chambers, it is our privilege to report out the accomplishments of this body’s work, which are strengthening the future of Wyoming, starting with strong investments in education. Educating Wyoming’s children is perhaps the single greatest investment our state can make. Public education is the crucible of democracy and the very foundation of our system of government....

As the Wyoming Department of Health prepares to resume the practice of reviewing people’s eligibility for Medicaid coverage, it is urging citizens to make sure their contact details are up to date. “We just started sending renewal notices by mail to clients.
